I initially I wanted to make an impressive lava castle seated in a massive volcanic crater with a lot of rock ridges and volcanoes. However, I found this was very difficult both in color grading and perspective. I later decided to go for a layered jungle hillside with elements of past civilization. I began with the simple image of a jungle that had various features I felt I could easily dissect the image into the fore, mid, and background elements. I then began to build up my terrain with multiple layers of foliage and shots of jungle canopies. I then sought out more fantastical elements to liven up the shot including temples, pillars, and Hindu architecture and a waterfall. I then went about adding some atmosphere and used stock footage of steam to give the jungle an animated feel; I did the same thing with the water overlaying a subtly animated clip and a cloud of mist that would form at the base. The near-final product had a nagging issue with the foreground not looking very convincing so with some advice from professor Andres I went to make a much more detailed foreground element with more trees and higher def photos. I then reworked my camera movement to help maintain the 2.5 D illusion.
