Wanting to keep my skills sharp with Nuke during my newfound free time, I decided to take some footage from my favorite place to walk and mess around with it. I wanted to practice using camera tracking, atmospherics, and complex rotoscoping to make a funny art piece of the Death Star looming over the planet.
This was the first piece I made during this dreaded 2020 lockdown. For some background, my sister was going to Temple University for the fall semester. She wanted me to make some new art for her apartment. She loves the ‘Louis Vuitton’ brand and saw some unique paintings that she wanted me to emulate.
So I got started and worked out how to properly use a thin paint with glitter my sister requested to use on a black background. My first attempts looked too thin and lacked the metallic sheen I wanted. I ultimately used a thicker grey paint for an undercoat of the symbol that spread more evenly on the black canvas and allowed the metallic glitter to stand out better.
The second painting my sister wanted was something she called a ‘God’s Eye.’ Someone she follows on Tik Tok had something similar on her wall, and she loved the way it looked. Funny enough, this was also when my family encouraged me to explore more avenues of showing my art to the world. So I filmed my progress while making this piece and made a fun time-lapse to show on my new Tik Tok account.
This was the largest of the paintings I made for my sister. She found and image online she wanted me to replicate in the form of a painting. She emphasized that she really wanted to preserve the watercolor and hand made look of the image. Ultimately, this was a fun exercise in using a loosey-goosey art style that embraces the mistakes rather than fixing them
Spider-Man has always been my favorite superhero. I’ve always been a fan of his stories portraying a young man facing adversities far beyond his capabilities and still finding a way to overcome. ‘With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility.’ When I was in high-school my mom introduced me to wall art utilizing artist tape, and I made a few pieces taking advantage of the fact my art wouldn’t ruin the walls. During the lockdown, my family encouraged me to try the medium again. I decided to make my favorite superhero challenge myself and make a piece that surpassed my previous ‘Wall Art.’
