In honor of my last year at SCAD, I wanted to go out with a bang that Halloween with something I wanted to make ever since I was a kid, a costume of the 80's classic Alien.
The head was one of the hardest parts of the whole ordeal. I began by Sculpting the shape from layers of glued insulation foam. To attain Alien’s elongated skull smoothness, I took a suggestion from my father to use bondo to smooth out the creature’s dome. I then crafted a set of menacing teeth out of clay and painted them silver to stand out from the skull. The head had to be painted with an acrylic-based paint to not melt the foam it was made of. One of the hard parts was certainly re-purposing an old bike helmet to allow the head to stay attached to my head, with plans to hide my head in the creature’s neck, much like the original Alien costume designed by H.R. Giger.
